Dentistry’s been in my family. My father was a dentist. I purposely tried to avoid dentistry for a long time. It wasn’t until I was halfway through my undergrad study that I started to venture into courses that, at that point then, my father said, “Why don’t you come in and take a look at this?” And noticing the human interaction, the patient interaction, that was the thing that really kinda shoved me towards, yeah, this is where I’m probably heading.
I think the most rewarding aspect about being a dentist is taking somebody who maybe has that feeling of a hopeless situation, and uplifting them and showing them that there’s much worse. And we can get you to a really great point. So even folks that have maybe let their oral health go to the wayside, bringing them back to a really good, stable and healthy point.
I think one of the biggest aspects of care that I like to make sure my patients leave with is understanding. What are we doing and why are we doing it? And not just, like, what we are doing, but what can be done. Sometimes, getting as much of the information out is the best thing that we can do.
